மனிதர்களை வேட்டையாடும் ஓநாயை ஆட்டுக்குட்டி போல மாற்றிய புனித பிரான்ஸிஸ் அசிசி

 

புனித பிரான்சிஸ் அசிசி மற்றும் குபியோவின் ஓநாய்:

 குப்பியோ என்ற சிறிய இத்தாலிய நகரத்தில், ஒரு ஓநாய் கிராமத்தையும் அதன் அனைத்து மக்களையும் பயமுறுத்தியது.  அது அடிக்கடி கால்நடைகளை தின்று மக்களையும் விழுங்க ஆரம்பித்தது.  ஓநாயை கொல்ல மக்கள் எடுத்த அனைத்து  முயற்சிகளும் தோல்வியடைந்தது.

 அசிசியின் புனித பிரான்சிஸ் இந்தச் செய்தியைக் கேள்விப்பட்டு, அந்த விலங்கைச் சந்திக்கப் புறப்பட்டார்.  அவர் வந்தவுடன், ஓநாய் புனித துறவியைக் கண்டு கோபமாக மாறத் தொடங்கியது.

 புனித பிரான்சிஸ், ஒரு  சிலுவையின் அடையாளத்தை உடனடியாக வரைந்து, “சகோதரர் ஓநாய், இங்கே வா.  நீங்கள் எனக்கோ யாருக்கும் எந்தத் தீங்கும் செய்யாதிருக்க வேண்டும் என்று கிறிஸ்துவின் சார்பாக நான் உங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகிறேன்.என்றார்.

 புனித பிரான்சிஸ் இந்த வார்த்தைகளைச் சொன்னவுடன், பயங்கரமான ஓநாய் தனது வாயை மூடிக்கொண்டு ஓடுவதை நிறுத்தியது.  பொங்கி எழும் ஓநாய் திடீரென்று ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைப் போல் சாந்தமாகி, புனித பிரான்சிஸின் காலடியில் விழுந்தது.

 St. Francis of Assisi and the   Wolf of Gubbio:

In a small Italian town called Gubbio, a wolf terrorized the village and all its inhabitants. It often ate livestock and began to devour people as well. Any attempt to kill the wolf was unsuccessful. 

St. Francis of Assisi heard the news, and he set out to meet the animal. Upon his arrival, the wolf saw the holy saint and began to change in anger.

St. Francis immediately makes the sign of the cross over him and said, “Come here, Brother Wolf. I command you on behalf of Christ that you do no harm to me or to anyone.” 

As soon as St. Francis said these words, the terrible wolf closed his mouth and stopped running. The raging wolf suddenly became as meek as a lamb, and threw itself at the feet of the holy St. Francis.
